Christmas comes early with Little Red to helm the Lord Mayor’s Christmas Carols
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas with The Little Red Company announced as the new creative force behind the annual Brisbane Lord Mayor’s Christmas Carols from 2021 until 2024.
The dynamic Brisbane-based production company will partner with Brisbane City Council to deliver the night-of-starry-nights at Brisbane Riverstage that unofficially heralds the beginning of the city’s yuletide festivities.
The appointment follows the 2020 virtual Lord Mayor’s Lighting of the Christmas Tree event, produced and presented by Little Red and enjoyed by 38,000 online viewers who couldn’t attend in person due to continued COVID restrictions.
Artistic Director and Carols Executive Producer Naomi Price said it also drew on Little Red’s unabashed love of Christmas and of coming together to create new traditions and celebrate old ones.
“For the past three years we have unofficially welcomed Queenslanders to the silly season as they sing along to their favourite seasonal hits at our show Christmas Actually,” she said.
“Producing the Lord Mayor’s Lighting of the Christmas Tree in 2020 laid strong foundations for a wonderful working relationship with Brisbane City Council and the Lord Mayor’s Office and we’re excited by the opportunity to continue this relationship in 2021 and beyond.”
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said the Lord Mayor’s Christmas Carols was one of the most highly anticipated events on Brisbane’s Christmas calendar.
“It is my honour to announce that The Little Red Company is the newly appointed company to deliver the Carols program. As a company that champions positive, uplifting, world-class entertainment, the future of the Carols program has never looked brighter,” Cr Schrinner said.
“As one of the most loved nights of the year, the carols is not an event delivered overnight and I know being acknowledged as the official partner will be a welcome boost for the team at The Little Red Company as preparations begin now for December.”
Ms Price, who will host the Carols, acknowledged that being the custodian of a much-loved tradition bore an important responsibility.
Work was already underway on the 2021 program and while the line-up of professional and polished live performers and musicians was still under wraps, Ms Price promised a world-class production with a whole lot of heart.
“Our 2021 program will take the Lord Mayor’s Christmas Carols from a lovely family evening on the Christmas calendar to an absolute must-attend event, where Brisbane locals, Queensland residents and interstate visitors will all fight for their square of grass,” she hinted.
