An initiative of Brisbane City Council, the Lord Mayor’s Christmas Carols returns in 2023 to spread joy to the world with a dazzling evening of high kicks, high notes and hijinks! This year, the Lord Mayor’s Christmas Carols will take place on Saturday 2 December at Brisbane’s Riverstage.

Tickets will go on sale on Tuesday 14 November at 10am via Ticketmaster.

The Lord Mayor’s Christmas Carols will be more accessible than ever with a range of services and features including:

Auslan interpretation
Dedicated Auslan area for families
Haptic vests and vibrating wristbands to feel the music
Audio description
Tactile tour
Song lyrics provided in Braille
Accessible viewing platform
Additional chairs for those with physical access needs
Social story and spoiler sheet
The first ever low sensory zone at the Riverstage

ACCESSIBILITY: d/Deaf and Hard Of Hearing

The Lord Mayor’s Christmas Carols will be Auslan interpreted.
Additionally, all lyrics will be captioned on-screen.

There is a dedicated Auslan area reserved for those requiring Auslan interpretation and their families. To book into this area, select the Auslan Area ticket type when purchasing your tickets via Ticketmaster.

If purchasing multiple tickets and you wish to all sit together, you will need to ensure all tickets purchased are Auslan Area tickets. Only those with Auslan Area tickets will have access to this area.

We will have haptic vests and vibrating wristbands to feel the music – these will be available for patrons to collect and return at the event.

After you have purchased your Auslan Area ticket, you will be contacted via email with further information.

ACCESSIBILITY: Blind and Low Vision

The Lord Mayor’s Christmas Carols will be audio described.
Audio description packs are available and can be booked after selecting your ticket type during the purchasing stage via Ticketmaster. After you have purchased your tickets and booked your audio description pack, you will be contacted via email with further information including where to collect your audio pack.

Council honours the Queensland Government Companion Card.

Thanks to CPL (Choice, Passion Life), this year there will be a VIP Preview Night on Friday 1 December at Brisbane Riverstage for anyone who may find large crowds overwhelming for accessibility reasons.

Accessibility features at this event include flat floor level access, breakout space, relief area for assistance animals, accessible toilets, tactile tour, Auslan interpretation and audio description.

ACCESSIBILITY: NEURODIVERGENCE AND LOW SENSORY

This year, the Lord Mayor’s Christmas Carols will feature the first ever low sensory zone at Brisbane’s Riverstage. This low sensory zone will include ambient lighting, lower audio levels, stress balls, comfortable seating and a screen to watch the show.

A social story (visual guide to the venue and what to expect), site map and spoiler sheet (step by step through the show with sound and light warnings) will be available here prior to tickets going on sale on Tuesday 14 November.

Content warnings include loud music, flashing and moving colourful lights, special effects that will contain loud sudden noises, including fireworks and bright glittery moments both in the sky and on stage including low level fog and cold sparks/pyros.

ACCESSIBILITY: MOBILITY AND PHYSICAL ACCESS NEEDS

The Riverstage is wheelchair accessible.
Wheelchair access is through Gate 2 for this event.

An accessible viewing area is available for those with limited mobility. The accessible viewing area is located on a platform at the top of the hill, looking down on the stage. You can be accompanied by a maximum of one companion in the designated areas.
