From English and Kiwi roots, Rachel grew up singing in church and was inspired by her mother, who sang and toured with vocal groups internationally. As a young girl, Rachel wanted to be Lauryn Hill and has vivid memories of dressing up in the mirror and singing tunes from ’Sister Act 2’, while taking vocal notes from Mariah Carey and Jill Scott; influences you can hear in her honeyed tone.
Her heart beats for Gospel, RnB, Soul, and Reggae, which over the years has seen her on stage as a backing and feature vocalist with artists like Guy Sebastian, Paramore, Noah Slee, Luke Kennedy, Naomi Price, James Morrison and Stan Walker, and, of course, husband Lai Utovou.
